The Stockholm region is ranked as one of the world’s most innovative, sustainable and digitalised metropolitan regions. Stockholm is aiming to be fossil-free by 2030 and climate-neutral by 2040. The city is collaborating broadly with academia, industry actors, and residents to achieve both the global Sustainable Development Goals and the goals in Agenda 2030. In a series of investments unlike any others being made in the world today, Stockholm is developing smart systems for energy and water supply in the completely climate-neutral districts of tomorrow. Every year, Stockholm’s dynamic innovation ecosystem, its prominent research centres, and strong financial markets attract hundreds of pioneering companies in numerous important areas of technology and society. For a number of years, Stockholm has been second only to Silicon Valley in the number of fast-growing billion-dollar companies (nicknamed “unicorns”) per capita.

Invest Stockholm is the city’s official investment promotion agency. Together with the tourism promotion agency Visit Stockholm, it is part of the Stockholm Business Region group. In partnership with 54 municipalities that form the Stockholm Business Alliance, Stockholm Business Region promotes foreign establishments and markets the region internationally. Invest Stockholm is participating in the Stockholm Green Innovation District to promote growth in companies and attract international collaborations and establishments to the city’s selected innovation-driven and creative districts.
